Due to the continued weather advisories indicating extreme cold with anticipated single-digit temperatures throughout the county, NCPS will operate on a Code 2- 2-HOUR DELAY for WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2025. This delay will provide more time for the temperatures to rise above single digits and the sun to improve visibility during travel. Students will still have the opportunity to get a hot breakfast when they arrive before the start time at each school. We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and make any changes if necessary. Have a great evening, stay safe and warm, and as always, #OneNelson

NCPS On Time January 14, 2025
To provide some extra time in the morning for safe travel with light and warming temperatures, NCPS will operate on CODE 2 - 2-HOUR DELAY for MONDAY, JANUARY 13, 2025. Students who use NCPS transportation by car or van should meet the driver at the end of their driveway to assist with pick-up. We will continue to evaluate road conditions in the morning to see if any change in school status needs to be made. We appreciate your patience as NCPS and local agencies worked hard to get our campuses and roads safe to travel for the return to school from Winter Break. We cannot wait to welcome all of our staff and students back. We will distribute Report Cards to students tomorrow. #OneNelson

Inclement Weather Update- 2-Hour Delay January 13, 2025
Despite the efforts of our NCPS staff and local agencies working hard on the roads, the continued freezing temperatures have not resulted in roads improving or the clearing of backroads and turnaround points for our drivers. Additionally, there is a Winter Weather Advisory for areas that will impact many of our staff and their travel for tomorrow afternoon. Therefore, for the safety of our students and staff, NCPS will operate on a Code 3 for FRIDAY JANUARY 10, 2025, which means that schools are CLOSED for students. All NCPS activities scheduled for tomorrow are canceled. Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep students, staff, and community safe. Have a great evening. Stay safe and warm! As always, #OneNelson

Inclement Weather - January 10 Closed
Although our crews and many local agencies have been working hard to prepare our campuses and bus routes for the return to school, we still have secondary and backroads with bus turnarounds throughout the county that are covered and frozen, making it difficult to travel. The temperatures will also continue to be well below freezing. As such, Thursday, January 9, will operate as a Code 3, which means that schools are CLOSED for students. All NCPS activities scheduled for tomorrow are canceled, except for the January 9, 2025, School Board Meeting, which will be held at 6:00 PM at the Courthouse. We are closely monitoring the weather and road conditions. On Thursday, we will provide any necessary school status updates for Friday. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to keep our students safe. Have a great evening. Stay safe and warm. #OneNelson

All NCPS activities scheduled for tomorrow are canceled. We are closely monitoring the weather and road conditions. On Wednesday, we will provide any necessary school status updates for Thursday. This week is National School Psychologist Week! Please join me in extending a THANK YOU to our School Psychologist, Chrissy Teora, for all that she does for students, teachers, and families in Nelson County. Chrissy spends a great deal of time administering assessments, analyzing student performance data, and guiding teams in determining how to best deliver services to our students. Additionally, she plays an integral role in identifying the Specially Designed Instruction that our students require. She furthermore guides teams in ensuring we meet timelines and supports us in ensuring all necessary components are complete. She remains calm and un-frazzled in tough situations and she is a true asset to our division. Regardless of the number of items on her to-do list, she readily stops what she is doing to meet the needs of her colleagues and students. Please join us in acknowledging Chrissy's contributions to NCPS. #OneNelson #SchoolPsychologistWeek
