Nelson Middle School is located one mile south of Lovingston in the center of Nelson County, Virginia.  The only middle school in the county, NMS is home to approximately 415 students, 40 teachers, and 15 support staff.  Nelson Middle School is fully accredited by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Nelson Middle School offers a strong academic program in traditional core subjects plus excellent arts and career programs.  Students can choose to participate in a wide variety of clubs and organizations that meet both during the school day and after school.  Students in all grade levels can participate in NMS athletics and eighth-grade students are eligible to join NCHS athletic teams.  

The Mustang is the school mascot and the official colors are green and white.
