The goal of the professional development consortium is to provide effective, professional programs for teachers and administrators in order to improve instruction and enhance the achievement of students. The Virginia School/University Partnership is comprised of the University of Virginia and twenty school divisions in central Virginia. Participating school divisions include: Albemarle, Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Buena Vista, Campbell, Charlottesville, Clarke, Fluvanna, Greene, Hanover, Louisa, Madison, Manassas Park City, Nelson, Orange, Rockbridge, Shenandoah, Staunton, Waynesboro, and Winchester.
Nelson County Public Schools are a participating member of the Shenandoah Valley Technology Consortium. This organization, in cooperation with WVPT Public Television, was awarded approximately $950,000 per year for the next five years to provide technology, resources and high quality professional development for teachers and administrators among twenty different school divisions. Much of the funding contained in the grant is committed towards providing teachers the opportunity to learn about the latest technology and how it is applicable to the classroom setting. This "state of the art" training in collaboration with technology resources such as United Streaming, gives us an upper hand as we prepare all students for the 21st century. |
